My weird OCD for writing
So, I’ve been wanting to do a few bits about how I write because I don’t think I’m unique but I know I’m a bit obsessive. I plan too much, I research too much and I don’t write enough. I get so engrossed in making my characters as real as flesh and blood that they actually become too real and I don’t feel I have the ability to write them down properly.
I want...

I’m getting a little tired of this idea that everything eventually needs to be made into a movie, as if the film format is the ultimate validation of an idea. To my biologist brain, it reminds me of the misconception that humans are at the top of the evolutionary ladder because we happen to have a…
Script Frenzy Thus far
Script Frenzy has had a bumpy start this year and I’ve literally only just started adding to it! I’m hopeful though, very hopeful!

The topic my readers most want me to address is something called men’s rights. (See previous post.) This is a surprisingly good topic. It’s dangerous. It’s relevant. It isn’t…

What My Writing Leads Me to Research
I love writing and the most fun part of writing on such a wide range of topics is looking over my list of things I need to research:
Steam Engines
Divorce Laws
Incest Laws in Australia
Indian Philosophy
The Russian Revolution
Airships in Steam Punk
Conjoined Twins
Rain Gods

And don’t let anyone tell you different.
There’s a huge wasteland of people who choose to be either uninformed or in denial. It’s time to wake them up. Make your voice heard. Comment. Write letters. Say what you support and what you don’t. Blog, tweet, tumblr, it all fights the tide. It’s not…

Characters
I seem to base a large amount of characters on my friends and I think that’s a good way to be! I used to base all my female characters on myself and that didn’t end so well.
Top Hat Man = Josh Perry
This is almost entirely for looks and accent because Josh is far too sweet to be so cruel, mischievous or cunning.
Brell = Brett Ireland
Brett is someone who works so much on logic and...
Top Hat Man
This is the young man I base my character Top Hat Man on, giving me one hell of a present. The tattoo on Top Hat Man’s face was giving me problems before but I think this looks fantastic! I’d get rid of the silver and probably the part that extends over the nose but the rest of it is better than anything I could have conceived! God I wish he was wearing the full outfit though (and...
Arabian Woman
I never for one moment realised how biased the internet is towards white people until I tried searching for other nationalities. This woman will have to serve as a basis for Philly because I literally could not find ANY pictures of young arabian girl.

The Issue of Space
I have recently returned from my creative adventure abroad and, like many young people in my position, I have been forced to move back in with my parents. It’s not a situation any of us love but has had an impressively detrimental effect on my writing.
1. Light.
Never before have I realised how important a good light source is to me and my writing. My room is green here and never faces the...

Back to Book Town 2010 →
This is where I’ll be May 1st till the 2nd. This town gets transformed into a book-lovers paradise, with several guest speakes to boot! V excited!
Another initial difficulty is that I have so much the habit of talking to myself...
– An Australia writer on her difficulties for writing a journal. I never have these problems myself, I see my journal as a way of draining off some of the pointless thoughts that go through my head on a day-to-day basis.
Sex metaphor
I asked Brett to compare sex to masturbation but he was annoying and immediately wanted quantification. What kind of sex? Because good-relationship sex is like your fave fancy restaurant while masturbation is like eating “trash”. This metaphor grew, with one night stands being like fish and chips, hookers being like ice cream and vigins being like mush. I will explain: Realtionship...

Interview with a Character - Helena Leanne Booth
Interviewer: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Helena: I'm... 16. I haven't really done *anything* yet really.
Interviewer: Where would you most like to live?
Helena: London. I hear they have lots of great stuff to do and the best art universities.
Interviewer: What do you most value in others?
Helena: I dunno...honesty I guess. I hate people who pretend and hold everything in. It never ends well...
Interviewer: Who is your favourite hero in fiction?
Helena: Doctor Frankenstein, it's so sad how he creates the monster... and then he ends up dying in the frozen north. People always seem to sympathize with the monster now, I don't know why.
Interviewer: What would you consider to be a real treat for yourself?
Helena: Sometimes I buy really expensive notebooks or sketchbooks. I know there's no point but they just look so beautiful.
Interviewer: Do you have any nicknames.
Helena: Mum calls my sister Top Gear because she's so energetic. She calls me Neutral.
Amazing Names
Today my job was mailing out a series of letters. While perusing the list of recipients I came across some truly fantastic names that I couldn’t help but attach personalities to! These aren’t the original names but very close, so I don’t get sued.
Desiree Alipoe - A sweet, kind hearted girl who learns fast and grows into a confident young woman.
Emmanuel Arziawor - A...
